This book is recommended if you are developing GUIs for X and Linux. It provides a handbook for programmers moving to Linux and GIMP. It is recommended that the reader have some knowledge of GTK and X. Good knowledge of C is also assumed.

Linux Application Development
This book covers all the details of the Linux OS. It covers areas as the process control, Unix sockets, networking and more. What it doesn't cover is X programming, since it's not Linux specific.
A good book for everyone doing aplication development on Linux systems.
